I LOVE LOVE bows on my sweet little girls but they seem to empty the pocketbook quickly. I have paid $10.00 or $15.00 per bow before and when you multiply that by all of the colors in the rainbow it really does add up! So, I did some research and took a trip to Hobby Lobby and attempted to make my first bow. I decided to start with the Korker style since it appeared to be the most simple to put together. Here’s what I did…
What you need: Scissors, hot glue gun, lighter (to seal the edges of the ribbon), needle, thread, measuring tape, wooden dowels, and clothespins. Oh and don’t forget your cute ribbon!
1. Preheat your oven to 275
2. Secure one end of the ribbon with a clothespin and tightly wrap the ribbon around each wooden dowel, leaving just a tiny bit of space between each curl. Trim the other end of the ribbon and secure with clothespin. I did 5 light pink and 5 dark pink in my first batch.
3. Put all of your wrapped dowels on a pan or cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil so your ribbon doesn’t get dirty.
4. Bake for 25 minutes
5. When they’re done, unwrap all of your curly ribbon!
6. Lay out your ribbon and cut up 4 inch pieces.
7. Tie a knot at the end of your thread then stack all of the Korkers on your needle.
8. Pull your thread through, wrap thread around pulling the ribbon together tight and repeat step until your bow is completly secure.
9. Add your center ribbon (if desired) and alligator clip to the back using a hot glue gun.
Like I said this is my first attempt to create a Korker bow so I’m defiantly not a pro yet but I was happy with how it turned out! Addison loved her new bow and I’m now excited to try some more styles and designs. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks!
